How Can You Get Gen Z to Read Your Blog?

I’m one of those who’ve taken blogging as a career and it’s been working for me for the past 5 years. I have been blogging since 2012 and went full time in 2015.

I have had over 5 years of beautiful and money making blogging. Not only has it connected me with many amazing people worldwide, it has been a way to learn and educate myself on a lot in my niche.

Blogging can be a career and the beauty about it is you don’t need the high fees to pursue it. Going to any vocational school or training center is a nice thing. But you may end up harming your wallet and for the most part, you’ll be looking for 9-5 job in the corporate world.

Blogging full time gives you a long list of opportunities, including freedom to live your life and spread out  at will. That doesn’t mean there are no challenges. Like in any career, blogging has its downsides. But my experiences and those of my blogging friends have thrown more light and made me understand I chose the right direction.

4 tips to build a career in blogging

What I’m about to share with you is basically from my experiences and from what I have learned from other successful bloggers.

When I started blogging, I was reading and These where the two main blogs that inspired me. My immediate kick came from and since getting in, it’s been constant growth

A career is an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress.

If you want to take for a career as a blogger, you’ve got to be ready to face the challenges. However, for the most part, you will be working as your own boss. Here are some few tips to help you out:

1. Choose the blogging topic wisely

This is very crucial and determines whether or not you will succeed in your blogging career. Many people that have failed in blogging have as this point to blame.

They make wrong choices based on wrong reasons. A poor foundation definitely will never be able to support a long lasting structure. Here are a couple of points to guide your choice of a blogging topic:

  1. Your passion about the topic
  2. Your knowledge in the industry
  3. The size of the industry

I personally think if you choose a blogging topic based on your passion, your inner drive will always push you to learn and get the information you need. However, if your choice is motivated by the amount of knowledge you have in the topic, it’s still a good thing.

But combining both is amazing. If you are passionate about what you know most, you will grow beyond heights.

The size of the industry too matters. What you’ve chosen to blog about as a career should have a market big enough to keep you going. However, there is generally no one-size-fits-all approach to this.

2 – Invest in yourself

Success in your blogging career is about how much value you have bundled in you. Your blogging is a direct reflection of what you have on your inside.

If you’ve come up with a topic to blog and build your career in, the next thing is to invest in getting yourself trained.  You cannot build any successful career without the necessary training.

3 – Get the right tools

To succeed in blogging, you need the right set of tools. Some of these are free and others paid. While the free tools are widely used, if you sincerely want to build a successful blogging career, invest in tools.

These include marketing tools, Web hosting, Blog themes and plugins, etc. In this post, I advise against using some tools in your blogging. This is because these are limited and will impose a serious  break on your growth.

4 – Connect with other bloggers

One thing you will notice in the industry is that successful bloggers are highly connected. They are connected to many people and to quality folks.

You cannot blog in isolation and build a successful career in it. Well, this may happen a few times. But you will always need to spread out and meet other successful people to mingle with.

Attend offline and online relevant blogging events. Organize meetings and seek to meet people who matter in your niche.

Here are some useful tips to facilitate your connections:

  • Read blogs of successful bloggers
  • Drop useful and meaningful comments
  • Follow them on social media
  • Share and promote their posts
  • Cite, mention and link out to their articles
  • Etc

Things you should not do why building your blogging career

Just like in any career, there are things you must not do in blogging. Some of these will either completely ruin your career or slow down your progress.

1 – Avoid plagiarism at all cost

This is the act of stealing and publishing someone else’s content. While this can bring you legal repercussions, it can serious damage your search visibility.

Instead of copying or cloning content, you are allowed to cite other websites in your content. If you have problems with this, check out this blog post on how to cite a website.

2 – Be yourself

One of the things I was taught in my early days of blogging is to be myself. I’m not a copy of anyone so I won’t try to mimic someone in my writings. I have my vocabulary different from the next blogger. So the best way to pour out my undiluted value in my content is to be myself.

If you try to imitate someone else, you end up being a fake copy of that person and not the original copy of yourself.

3 – Free hosting and free themes

Earlier on, I said you should invest in tools. I want to re-emphasize this point here because it’s so important. You may get free .com domain name, free SEO tools, free plugins, etc but run away from free web hosting and free themes.

These free resources will limit your growth  in several ways:

  • Lack of adequate customer service attention
  • Limited resources or features
  • Poor brand representation
  • Etc
